The Dragon’s Journey
“The Welsh Dragon”
Known as “The Welsh Dragon” because of my signature on prints, my love of photography began whist attending evening classes to learn how to take pictures of my then preschool age children: the tutor developed a print in the darkroom and I was “hooked”. The realization that it was possible to produce emotional images came when I photographed wet ponies at a Horse Sale. My photography developed into an aim to capture places, people, their traditions and way of life before they changed forever.
A panel of monochrome prints of images of the Slate areas of North Wales led to a project “Land of my Fathers”. A series of visits to the annual Appleby Fair to photograph Gypsies, included in a panel “Children of the world”, an invitation to a wedding in Ghana resulted in “Village Life Ghana”. These projects gained Distinctions, including the first person to be awarded two RPS Fellowships and only Welsh woman to be awarded MFIAP. A project “Tribal Life Ethiopia” lectures and an Exhibition raised money and awareness of Eye Disease for the local Glan Clwyd Eye Hospital Link with Hossana Eye Hospital whose aim is to educate and support and treat Eye disease in Southern Ethiopia
